About Synthpop Symphony
Electronic dance music (EDM) shows are among the most exciting ways to experience your favorite DJs spinning the latest beats. However, there’s a glaring issue: nearly all of these programs cater exclusively to house, trance, and Top 40 pop hits.
Currently, there are no radio programs that celebrate the burgeoning indie appeal of Synthpop, Synthwave, and Electropop, while also paying homage to the iconic music of the 1980s with reimagined remixes and modernized covers. This is despite the fact that thousands of artists across more than 60 countries are actively creating music in these genres.
In addition, many legendary 1980s artists continue to release new music, embark on tours, and sell out venues worldwide. For example, in Los Angeles alone between 2022 and 2025, Depeche Mode, Howard Jones, Duran Duran, New Order, Gary Numan, Tears For Fears, and a Flock of Seagulls all unveiled new albums and performed to packed audiences over multiple nights. Even niche Italo Disco artists like Thomas Anders of Modern Talking sell out two-night engagements in Los Angeles every year.
The fanbase for this music is alive and thriving, hungry for new sounds, fresh artists, and nostalgic classics reminiscent of radio stations like KROQ, Live 105, and 91X in California. Yet, as electronic music has ascended to dominate the mainstream, this passionate audience has been left behind.
Worse still, the general public lacks an easy way to discover this music. The solution lies in bringing it directly to listeners—meeting them where they are. Affordable streaming, FM radio and satellite options are the most effective ways to connect with these audiences.
While companies like XM Satellite Radio honor classic new wave and indie rock, there is currently no equivalent radio program for electronic music fans to hear the latest from these dynamic artists. It’s time to fill this void and give this genre, and its dedicated listeners, the platform they deserve.
